Spring is finally here and it is time to jump on that motorcycle and take it for a ride. But wait, do you have all of the protection you need before you head out on the road? What is the best and most comfortable option for you to wear from Spring to Fall? Of course it’s your helmet and leather, but there is one more thing, KEVLAR!
Kevlar was first developed by DuPont employee Stephanie Kwolek in 1965, and was first used in the 1970’s as a replacement for steel in racing tires. Today you can find Kevlar in bicycle tires, drumheads, boat racing sales, and body armor. It can be used to make these different items because of its high tensile strength to weight ratio. By this measure it is 5 times stronger than steel, yet it is incredibly light.OK, so now you know what Kevlar is, but what’s the best way to wear it? Well there are many companies who make Kevlar jeans and shirts, but our favorite is Draggin Jeans. They offer a wide variety of Kevlar items and are proudly Made in the USA! Draggin Jeans has been around since 1996 and to prove how well their products are made and how well they will protect you, they created the Drag Test.
There are a variety of different ways to wear Kevlar. For bottoms there are the Draggin Jeans and also the Draggin Liners. Draggin Jeans come in classic fit and slim fit and has Kevlar protection in the rear and knees. The Draggin Liners are best when you want to wear your own favorite jeans but still want protection. They are basically cool mesh Kevlar long johns and come with stirrups for adjusting to your inseam. The Draggin Shirt is 100% cool mesh Kevlar and comes in yellow and black with 2 layers of Kevlar in the shoulder and the elbows for extra protection. The best part about the Draggin Shirt is that you can wear it under you leather jacket as a layer in the fall and just as a shirt by itself in the spring and summer. The cool mesh lets air flow through the shirt to keep you cool while you ride.
Whichever item you choose, you can feel confident in the protection that it will offer you, and also feel proud in supporting an American made company. Please also check out our customer reviews on the description pages. Happy Riding.
